My week in tangents....

Because I'm not particularly good with words, here are a few pictures to sum up my week... or my semester....

I've been having a blast in production class now that we're actually making movies. We made a short-film this week and I was in charge of lighting a hallway scene. Turns out I'm too vertically challenged to be a gaffer. It was a sad day.

Sorry... that was racist. But don't pretend you didn't laugh or think it was cute. My new ward is about 50% Korean. I think it's pretty cool. They all wear perfectly tailored outfits and judge my poor fashion sense but I think they're just great. Seriously though, they're some of the nicest people I know. And thanks to my friendship with Cho, I can ALMOST pronounce their names!
Being the stereotypical college student that I am, I may have taken on a little more than is healthy this semester. I won't get into specifics of what my schedule's like since anyone else's schedule is gonna sound similar but I'll just say it's been pretty rigorous trying to adjust. And for some reason I always decide to take on more projects when I'm busy. Silly Whitney. However, on the plus side, my classes are so much more interesting now that I'm into my major and I'm getting super jazzed about going into film-making. Especially screenwriting. I think the funnest part is reading parts in everyone's scripts. So far, I've been floozy #3, a waitress, a drunken lesbian with a sailor-mouth, and a robot-doctor among others. And I actually have classmates that I relate to. I made friends with a kid who kept kicking me and hitting me in the face with his bag because our seats were too close. He shared his grapes with me as a peace offering and now we're besties. I love how simple making friends has become. I had to read 40 pages of screen direction out-loud for this BS screenplay where the guy is basically trying to portray Joseph Smith as a treasure-hunting crook who rapes little girls. Not my cup of tea. I may have slaughtered the screen-directions.

I've had to meet with 3 different professors this week for different reasons and realized what an absolutely awkward person I am. It's okay, I'm starting to embrace it. During the last meeting, I spent a majority of the time watching my professor blinking his watery eyes and thinking how glad I was that I no longer wear contacts. I'm sure it was a good meeting, I just wish I had paid attention. I do remember him saying that I'm too much of a perfectionist and need to get over it. Ouch. Thanks, Teach. I've been getting a lot of good feedback for my films and screenplays though and one of the professors is writing a letter of recommendation for me to go teach English in Korea. We'll see how that goes!

I got stung by a bee for the first time in YEARS. It flew into my car while I was driving to an appointment and attacked me. I threw it on the ground after it stung me and told it I hoped it enjoyed its long and painful death then had to meet my professor with watery eyes and a stinger in my neck. Haley says that bee is going to hell.
I've been asked several times in film classes what my favorite film is and drawn a blank every time. That's probably a bad thing. I can't even tell people what kind of films I like. Action dramedy? Satires? I realized that I spend too much time studying films to actually watch them... anyone know of any good movies? I need to compile a list for the next time that question's thrown at me!

So that's pretty much what my semester's been like. I'll try not to let my future posts get so rambly.
